This first full-scale biography of Nimzowitsch chronicles his early life in Denmark, his family and education, and his fascination with the game that would become the focus of his life.

Also included are explorations of his tournament games and records, his dispute with influential chess teacher Siegbert Tarrasch, and his role in the development of Hypermodern Chess. Their scholarship and attention to detail is most impressive. The book clearly has been written as a labour of love. I will choose just one example, taken at random, of the aforementioned attention to detail displayed in this work. The book includes, not one, but two charming old photographs of Sandstrasse both taken circa The second photograph is featured on page where the authors point out that the Cafe was located "in the center at the little white house".

The latter photo seems to be an old postcard "Riga - Sandstrasse mit Pulverturm". A book like this does not come around often. It fully deserves its accolade as the winner of ChessCafe.

To have a second book of the same high quality as the first entails a necessary wait. It is great to see Nimzowitsch finally getting the detailed coverage he surely deserves. Best Nimzowitsch book in existence.

This volume is absolutely fantastic. It combines the scholarship of the Encyclopedia Britannica, with the detail of a precise biography, along with the drama of a soap opera. I have been a Nimzowitsch admirer since I was a teenager. Scrape together the 50 clams and buy it.

Many great photos. The authors have annotated some games that had never been analyzed in print before. The authors have produced an exhaustive and definitive masterpiece of this fascinating chess wizard. This is a marvelous production with a gold-stamped sewn library binding, printed on white acid-free paper no dust-jacket.
